Negotiating Digitalised Workplaces: Trade Union Workshop and Public Discussion

In June, FES Ireland hosted a trade union workshop and public event in Dublin to mark the launch of its new report, Negotiating Digitalised Workplaces. The report is part of a wider series of seven country reports examining workers’ rights and employers’ obligations in relation to artificial intelligence and algorithmic technologies in the workplace.

The day began with a half-day workshop for trade union representatives, focusing on the implications of digitalisation and AI for workers and collective bargaining. Facilitated by Christina Colclough, Marta Kahancová, and Oliver Philipp, the workshop created space for in-depth discussion on how trade unions can respond to technological change and strengthen protections in increasingly digitalised workplaces.

The public event concluded with a panel discussion exploring what these developments mean for younger generations, with a particular focus on gender. Moderated by Anna Kraft, Country Director of FES Ireland, The panel brought together perspectives from trade unions, youth representation, academia, and research. Speakers included Conor Daye (Labour Youth), Delma Byrne (Maynooth University), Luke Brosnan (ESRI), and Maeve Richardson (Financial Services Union).
