Launch Event: "Who Does (Not) Vote in Ireland?" Report Released

On October 23, 2024, the FES launched its latest report, “Who Does (Not) Vote in Ireland?”, as part of the Unequal Democracies series. The event was moderated by Anna Kraft, Programme Manager for FES Ireland, and provided an in-depth look at voter turnout in Ireland, illustrating a nuanced picture of non-voting patterns across demographics.

Who Does (NOT) Vote in Ireland?

Guy Gerba, author of the report, presented key findings, noting that while younger generations in Ireland are voting less - a trend seen across Europe - the report also highlights unique characteristics within Ireland’s non-voter profiles. Among these are factors such as urban-rural dynamics and home ownership. Michael Jennewein, lead project manager for the project line Inequality & Democracy, provided a broader European perspective, offering insight into how Ireland’s patterns relate to wider European trends.

The event concluded with a discussion on policy recommendations from the report aimed at fostering a more inclusive democratic process in Ireland.
